Hair & Beauty Association of SA Inc. is proud to present the 2018 Hair & Beauty Competitions. This year, the Association has combined the Pre-Done Awards & Live Competitions to be able to bring you this huge and exciting event.

This year's Total Look theme was "Dark Beauty"!

OPEN EDITORIAL BRIDAL HAIR 2018 (PD)

(Open to apprentices/trainees and qualified hairdressers). Judges seek a 2018 Contemporary Bridal look (Not avant-garde or fantasy). Female model must be used and completed with gown and Makeup ready for judging. Hair ornamentation or veils may be worn however emphasis will be placed on visible hair work. Report time 11:30. Model may also be entered in Section 2
Points Allocated 30% Technical, 40% Creativity, 30% Total look.

SENIOR LADIES’ CUT & COLOUR (LIVE)

(The Pam Lavender Award Part 1) (Open to qualified hairdressers). Judges seek a Creativity overall suitable style. Female model with suitable colour must be used. Time allowed 40 mins. No pre-cutting/styling allowed and the design line must be changed. An average of 3cm must be removed off the whole head Clippers and attachments may be used. NO wigs, hairpieces or extensions are allowed. Report time 12:00
Points allocated: 50% Technical, 30% Creativity, 20% Suitability

OPEN MEN’S CUT & COLOUR (LIVE)

(The Pam Lavender Award Part 2) (Master Barber Part 1) (Open to apprentices/trainees & all qualified hairdressers and barbers) Judges seek a high fashion cut & colour. Male model must be used. An average of 2cm must be removed off the whole head and no pre– styling /cutting (clippers and attachments may be used). Fashion colour must be used at least 40% hair style. Time allowed 30 mins. Report time 11:30

(The Paul Sherman Award Part 2) (Open to apprentices/trainee hairdressers and barbers). Judges seek a high fashion cut & colour. Male model must be used. All work to be carried out on model’s own hair. Models must be finished and ready for judging. Report time 11:30

(Master Barber Part 3)Open to apprentices/trainees & all qualified hairdressers and barbers). Male model must be used. Clippers and attachments may be used. Model may have a  Pre-Done Style, as Tattooing to be performed live. Competitors will receive the desired tattoo design via text message on the day, 10 minutes prior to start time.Report time 12:30.

TAFESA Hair and Beauty Logo
OPEN RUNWAY HAIR FASHION FALL/WINTER 18 (PD)

(Open to all trainees/students/apprentices & qualified hairdressers). Judges seek a high fashion colour combines with a current catwalk look. Female models to be finished and ready for judging. Hair accessories and partial extensions may be used. Points will be considered where it is demonstrated that the total look has been appropriately researched. Model presentable for catwalk is essential. Report time 12:00.

(Open to all trainees, students & apprentices qualified hairdressers) Judges seek a complete “Dark Beauty” themed character. Male or Female models must be finished and ready for judging. Wigs, hairpieces or extensions may be allowed. Hair Makeup and costume must complement each other.
Report time 1:30. This model may also be entered in Section 14

(Open to all trainees/students/apprentices & qualified hairdressers). Judges seek a fashion forward pastel blonde colour. Models must be finished with pastel tones ready for judging. All work must be carried out on models own hair. Clean blending is expected throughout the whole head.

Points allocated: 50% Technical, 25% Suitability, 25% Condition of hair

(Open to trainees and qualified makeup artist). Judges seek a complete 'Dark Beauty' body art look Male or Female model may be used. 80% of the body at least must be painted to complement our selected theme. No exposed nudity, models must be wearing a G string or costume to cover up as per diagram. Please see Full Terms and Conditions of entry for this competition on the Hair&BeautySA Website. OPEN SFX MAKEUP “DARK BEAUTY” (PD)

(Open to all trainees/students/apprentices & qualified professionals) Judges are seeking “Dark Beauty” inspired characters. Female or Male model may be used. Models must be finished and ready for judging. Elements to be used– Latex for Ageing and Latex pieces, Crepe hair & facial pieces, prosthetics, bald cap. Colours for highlight and shade (Choose no less than 3 elements). Make-up must be used to a minimum of 35% of the body or face. DO NOT use a mask ‘at all’ or a costume that covers the full body. (No Nudity)
Report time 3:30
Points allocated 40%Technical, 40% Creativity, 20% Total Look

Instagram Competition Rules

The following are the terms and conditions of the Hair & Beauty Industry Association of SA (H&BSA)

1. Your submission must be correctly “hashtagged” with the section you wish to enter. Makeup Entries must use the tag #hbsamakeup2018 and Hair entries must use the tag #hbsahair2018

2. Entry must be submitted no later than Friday 4th May.

3. Your entry must show your interpretation of an animalistic makeup or hair look and alongside it must be your animal inspiration for the look you’ve created.

4. Your entry will be judged on:
• Hairdressers’ Editorial - Hair 40%, Make-up 20% Style (Look) 40%.
• Make-up Artists - Make-up 40%, Hair 20%, Style (Look) 40%

5. Competitors must be one of the following: Qualified Hairdressers/Make-up Artists, Beauticians, Trainees or Apprentices, working in a professional salon, or students currently enrolled in a hair and or beauty industry course run by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

 6. The winners will be announced at the 2018 Hair & Beauty Competitions on Sunday 20th May and all entries will be on display at the event.

 7. There is no limit to the number of entries per competitor.

8. With each entry, the hair and makeup for that entry must be done by the person submitting the photograph.

 9. The winner will be featured on the H&BSA website, Instagram and facebook pages as well as included in the Bi-Annual newsletter, the News&Views

 10. H&BSA have the right to use the photos for promotional purposes for the Association. Your name may be published.

 

 

 

GENERAL COMPETITION INFORMATION

Competition Event Memberships information 

The Hair & Beauty SA Competitions have been running for nine years and the Association aims to find the most innovative and original fashion trends leading into the new seasons for both hair and makeup.

It extends to Catwalk Make-up & Hair, body art and themed Total Looks for the more creative.

More than 200 entries have emerged from around South Australia for the Pre-Done and State Hair & Make-up Competitions that are supported by local and interstate sponsors.

The competitions are a fantastic chance for the young or new competitors to get attention from the industry.

THE LIVE COMPETITIONS (previously the State Comps) provide the opportunity to see peers in action as they battle it in 16 sections out on the floor for first places to gain the prestigious awards.

THE JUDGES

The judging panel comprises of Adelaide’s top leading stylists and make-up artists. So the top place awards are received by hairdressers and make-up artists who create outstanding work that support a total fashion look, is original and both innovative with a commercial edge.

THE VOLUNTEERS

The competitions are run by a group of passionate industry professionals and volunteers and could only be possible with the support from our sponsors.

The competitions provide a great platform for students, apprentices and businesses to showcase their talents and be recognized and rewarded for their achievements.

These awards continue to demonstrate the exceptional standard of Hairdressing & Make-up Artistry in South Australia.

Not only have the 2018 winners proven that they are among the best in the business, but they have shown a creative interpretation of trends to create fashion-forward looks.

The Comps are continuing to evolve with the make-up special effects and body art sections growing and new sections such as the Avant Garde Gala, Runway Catwalk and Barbering.
